It’s officially the last day of the year and the first post of my revamped website. This year I am going hard into art and comedy. One of my New Years Resolutions is to do a Drawing or Painting a Day and post online to keep accountable. I did this for a lark a while back but it only lasted 9 months. I didn’t have any set goals for it. I just thought I would do it to practice drawing and quit when it stopped being fun which actually happened about a month sooner than when I quit. Here’s an example from my previous daily drawing posts:
I actually started painting about a week ago because I just really needed to. I had the itch, man. Before, I ended up using Prismacolor markers because they were fast and easy. I started really liking them. Now I’m using gouache. I love it. That’s what I used when I was a costume design student. I only have primary colors, black and white so all my other colors are mixed. I think that’s good but I’ll add more paints as I go. Here’s an example of what I’ve done this past week:
This took a really long time though. I mean like a few hours. The 2017 Drawing of the Day has to be quicker though because I’m about to get really busy again. I like how Jennifer Orkin Lewis at August Wren sets a timer for 30 minutes. I’m going to try that. Her stuff is great, by the way. A real inspiration.
I’m looking forward to this project and to making a living making art. I mean making more of my living making art. I hope it inspires someone the way I have been inspired. Happy 2017, everybody. Or at least, do the best you can.
